Financing solar
You can make significant savings on your electricity bills by installing solar PV and batteries at home. But with an average solar array costing £5,000-£6,000 and a battery costing as much as the same again, you may be wondering how to pay for them. Help is at hand, here are a few options to consider.
Talk to your bank and/or mortgage lender, they may be offering deals for green home improvements. For example, Barclays is offering mortgage customers £1,000 cashback towards solar panel installs and £2,000 for heat pumps and Nationwide is offering additional ‘green’ borrowing on their mortgages at 0% interest.
Ask your energy supplier about solar finance options. Both Octopus Energy and E.ON are offering interest free loans for solar panels.
Find a green personal loan with a discounted interest rate. Lendology is offering a 4% interest rate for green home improvements. And local organisation Just Credit Union is providing preferential green loans at 5% interest for those living in Shropshire and Herefordshire who borrow between £10,000 and £15,000. This could be for anything from solar panels and heat pumps to electric cars and bikes.
